Former President Jimmy Carter has been in the news twice in the last week for comments he’s made about President Trump.
The first comment was a lighthearted poke that Carter made at President Trump’s expense during his commencement speech at Liberty University. President Trump was last years commencement speaker, so President Carter bragged about how much “bigger” the commencement crowd was this year. It was hilarious! (VIDEO BELOW)
The second comment that President Carter made about the current president was the real newsworthy one. In an interview with Politico, President Carter indicated that he believes President Trump deserves consideration for a Nobel Prize if he successfully works out a deal with North Korea. The is huge, coming from a former president who also happens to be a Democrat, and a Nobel Prize winner himself.
President Carter told Politico:
‘If President Trump is successful in getting a peace treaty that’s acceptable to both sides with North Korea, I think he certainly ought to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.’
Earlier this month, when the press asked President Trump if he thought he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in North Korea, President Donald Trump said: “Everyone thinks so, but I would never say it.”
The New York Post reports:
Former President Jimmy Carter said Donald Trump would be worthy of consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize if he’s able to pull off getting North Korea to abandon its nuclear arsenal.
“If President Trump is successful in getting a peace treaty that’s acceptable to both sides with North Korea, I think he certainly ought to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize,” the 93-year-old ex-president told Politico in an interview published Tuesday. “I think it would be a worthy and a momentous accomplishment that no previous president has been able to realize.”
But Carter, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work to promote humanitarian issues and free elections around the globe, criticized Trump for dealing a “blow to peace” in the Middle East by moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and for failing to deliver moral leadership.
If Obama received a Nobel Prize for basically doing nothing, then we believe President Trump deserves a Nobel Prize for the work he has already done in the Korean situation.
