Adam Schiff rattled his saber at President Trump over the Mike Flynn pardon calling him an organized crime figure. “It would send a message that at least as far as President Trump is concerned if you lie on his behalf if you cover up for him, he will reward you,” Schiff said.
“He will protect you, but only if he thinks it’s in his interest. There are others that lied for him that he’s not going to extend that kind of service to, but it just, frankly reflects so ill on our democracy, on the United States. Imagine what people around the world think when we have a president who’s acting like an organized crime figure. But this is who Donald Trump is. It’s who he was on the way into the presidency. It will be exactly who he is on his last days of the presidency,” Schiff menacingly added.
And then there is Andrew Weissmann, a deputy for former special counsel Robert Mueller and the overzealous prosecutor who got embarrassed by the Supreme Court in the Enron case, who went further than Schiff and called for investigations into Trump when he leaves office.
Weissmann wrote in the New York Times that an investigation or prosecution of Trump is needed even if it “would further divide the country” and even if it hurt Biden because it “would surely consume the administration’s energy.”
“But as painful and hard as it may be for the country, I believe the next attorney general should investigate Mr. Trump and, if warranted, prosecute him for potential federal crimes,” he wrote.
“Sweeping under the rug Mr. Trump’s federal obstruction would be worse still,” Weissmann said. “The precedent set for not deterring a president’s obstruction of a special counsel investigation would be too costly: It would make any future special counsel investigation toothless and set the presidency de facto above the law.”
“In short, being president should mean you are more accountable, not less, to the rule of law,” he added.
Look, the left is publicly threatening investigations into Trump which is a break with the past but more importantly they are empty threats.
First, doing so would set off a domino effect the left is not prepared for but more importantly they view themselves as above the law (when they are in power), and going after the guy who came before would shatter the belief that they can do what they want.
Obama didn’t go after Bush’s guys for lying about the war because he wanted immunity for his shady actions. That is the way it works but the left has made Trump such a monster that they have to appease their base and pretend they will try something. It won’t happen.
Trump, however, is in no mood for games and reminded them he could just pardon everyone including himself.
Trump put Schiff and the rest on notice with a simple Matt Gaetz retweet:
“President Trump should pardon Flynn, the Thanksgiving turkey, and everyone from himself, to his admin, to Joe Exotic if he has to. The Left has a bloodlust that will only be quenched if they come for those who fought with @realDonaldTrump to deliver for the American people.”
